Instantly recognizable as the paradise where Brooke Shields was ship wrecked with Christopher Atkins in the 1980s film, The Blue Lagoon, the swimming hole by the same name lies just outside Port Antonio, Jamaica.
This is an unspoiled oasis where you will feel as though you are the only remaining person on earth. Blue Lagoon Bahamas as a place of the magnificent turquoise blue and emerald-green waters are an astonishing 56 m (185 ft) deep. Created by underground mineral springs fed from the Blue Mountains, it is one of the last remaining truly tropical paradises on the island. The spectacular cove is surrounded by lush, steep hills, which complete the dreamlike setting.
While swimming in the Blue Lagoon Bahamas you will feel streams of warm water at times, and streams of cold water at others. There are parts where the water is shallow enough to walk right in, some with steep slopes and others with only slight slopes. You can even watch as the mineral water bubbles through the ground.
On the nearby banks there is a restaurant with a dive shop that rents out kayaks and scuba equipment. A relatively unknown attraction, the Blue Lagoon Bahamas is one of the definite ‘must sees’ of Jamaica and the world.
The Nearby Somerset Falls are also worth a swim. This peaceful retreat is off the beaten track, so it takes an adventurous spirit to find it, but if you go for a short stroll through the wooded surroundings, you can take a canoe trip down to the crystal clear falls and take a relaxing swim in this quite haven.
A large, deep, stunningly beautiful cove.
Its emerald-green and azure crystalline waters.
This is where Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins swam together in the film of the same name, The Blue Lagoon.
