The first Maori called these Islands Aotearoa, the “land of the long white cloud”. The country offers all kinds of activities, such as fishing, surfing, and above all hiking in unspoiled nature, where the white of the sheep’s wool contrasts with the green of the forests at the foot of the mountains, and where glaciers, volcanoes, and geysers enliven the countryside.

Landscape

In New Zealand, nature is the main attraction. Mountains, glaciers, forests, and lakes invite hiking, or skiing in winter, in an unspoiled landscape protected by strict laws. The North Island is also called “Smoking Island” because around Rotorua, a city marked by Maori culture, steam rises up from hot springs, the Waimangu “cauldron” (a boiling lake born of an eruption at the beginning of the 20th century), the Lady Knox Geyser at Waiotapu, and the Pohutu Geyser at Whakarewarewa, whose jet can rise to more than 100 feet. Tongariro National Park—with popular hiking routes and ski trails—is overshadowed by Ruapehu, the highest volcano in the country.

The South Island, also known as the Jade Island, is the larger of the two major islands. Its heart is the Southern Alps, whose beautiful scenery includes glaciers (Franz Josef, Fox, Tasman) in Westland National Park near Mont Cook and waterfalls (Sutherland Falls, cascading in three levels for 1,900 feet, among the highest in the world). In addition, the South Island has Nelson Lakes National Park and Paparoa National Park with the Punakaiki Pancake Rocks. In the vicinity of Queenstown, skiing and rafting are popular.

Beautiful Auckland City Skyline at Night

Wildlife

New Zealand is famous for the flightless kiwi, a protected species, and many other species of birds, particularly in Fiordland National Park. More prosaically, the country has a ratio of 20 sheep for every person.

Sperm whales, humpback whales, orcas, and dolphins frolic off the Kaikoura Peninsula.

Coasts

The coast of the Tasman Sea is carved out by fjords on the west side (Fiordland). Milford Sound is the most accessible and most beautiful one, extending for more than 12 miles into a landscape flanked by sheer rock faces that rise to 3,900 feet.

The country boasts more than 3,000 miles of coastline, with relatively cold waters. The Coromandel Peninsula on the North Island has the best beaches for swimming and surfing. Other good beaches are at Hawkes Bay and the port of Napier. On the South Island, the city of Nelson, on Tasman Bay, is also a popular beach resort. North of Christchurch, dolphins and whales can be seen, and fishing enjoys great popularity there.

Isolated Tokelau consists of three tiny atolls (less than 5 square miles) in the South Pacific Ocean, North of Samoa, with a population of 2,000. The people are of Polynesian origin, but are British subjects and New Zealand citizens since 1948. Tourism has not really become established there, and the islands are little known except perhaps to coconut merchants.

Cities And Cultural Heritage

Christchurch, the “garden city,” looks very English; Dunedin has Scottish appeal; and Wellington boasts colonial houses, the Wellington City and Sea Museum with a reconstruction of Capt. James Cook’s ship, and the new Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa on the waterfront.

The city of Auckland, built on an isthmus, features a museum with important Maori exhibits. In the north as in the south, New Zealand is marked by Maori culture, which is being treated with new respect.

Travel Advice

Simply a hymn to nature, which, moreover, is respected and protected.

New Zealand is at the far end of the world. The country has a long rainy season, and it is winter during the Northern Hemisphere’s prime vacation season. Between December and February, however, the sun makes itself felt.

Captain Light was searching for a base where ships of the East India Company could set anchor and make repairs. He made a treaty with the Sultan of Kedah, and in exchange for military protection, received permission to colonize the jungle-covered and virtually uninhabiated island.

Visit Penang Hill Malaysia – The Oldest British Settlement

In the middle of today’s busy, modern city of Georgetown rises Penang Hil Malaysia (Bukit Bendera). Almost 900 m (1,000 ft) high, it dominates the island and from its summit there are amazing views not only of the town and the whole island but also, on a clear day, of the mountains on the mainland.

The hike up Penang Hil Malaysia takes about two hours, but the best way to see it is to take the funicular railway. Built by Swiss engineers, this trundles up an incredibly steep angle at a leisurely pace through the tropical forest, allowing you a close look at palms and creepers and cascading tropical flowering trees. At the top is a plateau, with a few shops, a cafe, a small Hindu temple and a mosque. Here you will also find a tatty 1930s hotel, set in pretty gardens that house a bird sanctuary. Other attractions on the hill include the botanic gardens and the rope walk.

Uluru Australia, otherwise known as Ayers Rock, is an enormous monolithic rock that rises majestically from the plain around it. It is part of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, which also includes the Olgas, a fantastic group of 36 huge red rocks that stand about half an hour’s drive away. Uluru is formed from almost vertical layers of extremely hard sandstone, the surface layer of which has become red as the result of oxidation. On the north-west and south-east sides, erosion has cut into the rock forming channels down which water pours after storms, forming spectacular but short-lived waterfalls.

Visit Uluru (Ayers Rock) – An Iconic Symbol Of Australia

Uluru Australia and Kata-Tjuta belong to the Anangu Aboriginal people, who manage it in tandem with Parks Australia. It is deeply significant to the Anangu, firstly as a constant source of water and food in this inhospitable desert region, and secondly as a landmark along the Songlines of Anangu culture and mythology.

Australia Romantic Dinner In Uluru Or Ayers Rock At Sunset | Source : australia.com

Most people who visit Uluru Australia try to climb up to the summit, although the Anangu would prefer it if they did not. Every year someone dies making the attempt, and many others have to be rescued. The plateau at the summit affords vast views, and is interesting to explore, but it is a tough climb, and is often windy, sometimes so much so that the climb has to be closed for safety reasons. The 9-km (6 mi) walk around the rock is probably a better option and affords you a good look at various Anangu sites.

lt’s hard to imagine how green the countryside really is green and damp. The changeable weather should not be a reason to avoid this country of marvelous sights and activities, be they walking tours, bicycle excursions, river cruises, or playing a round of golf.

Landscape

Visit Ireland is focused on the landscape, which is never more beautiful than when the sun appears over the hills and dales after a rainstorm. Connemara takes prime position in this regard, thanks to its heaths, blanket bogs, lakes, and fishing coves, along with its Gaelic language, special light, and country houses.

The west coast is well known for its scenic cliffs (the Cliffs of Moher rise to 394 feet), rocky bays, the rough Aran Islands, and the Burren with its strangely formed limestone outcrops and grottoes. County Kerry in the southwest has a gentle climate, ideal for clumps of blooming rhododendrons in the beginning of June, and boasts the lakes of Killarney, sandy beaches at Inch on the Dingle Peninsula, and tremendous views from the cliffs. At 3,406 feet, the Carrantuohill is the highest peak of the Macgillycuddy’s Reeks range and the highest mountain in Ireland.

On the north coast, the cliffs of Slieve League form in some places the highest coastal relief in Europe. Benbulbin, its limestone formations resembling the prow of a ship, is nestled at the foot of the Dartry Mountains.

South of Dublin, County Wicklow stands out for its gardens (Kilruddery, Powercourt) and heaths.

County Waterford in the southeast features a riverine landscape formed by the Barrow, Suir, and Blackwater Rivers. John F. Kennedy’s great-grandparents emigrated from New Ross in this region to the United States. Sailing from Cobh, near Cork, nearly three million Irish left for the New World, and the legendary Titanic made it its last port of call. Midleton is home to the Jameson Heritage Center, with exhibits about the famous whiskey distillery and the largest still in the world.

Activities

The country’s many attractions have led to the development of varied activities. Many sites can be visited, on foot, by horse or bicycle, or by boat on the Shannon or the Blackwater.

Golf is a widespread leisure activity, and many famous golf courses beckon, including Tralee, Ballybunion, Clifden, and especially Waterville, which also has one of the most beautiful beaches in Ireland.

Visitors can tide horseback through Kerry, Connemara, and Donegal, to the sandy beaches of the Dingle Peninsula, or into narrow passes such as the Gap of Dunloe. Touring by old-fashioned covered wagon is yet another option.

Fishing aficionados can rent boats to catch salmon in the Black-water River or pike in the Shannon.

Monuments and Culutral Heritage

Dolmens, castles (Kilkenny), ancient ruins (Staigue Fort)—tourists have not yet discovered all the monuments of Ireland’s long history.

Each year, on March 17, St. Patrick is celebrated for having brought Christianity to Ireland in the fifth century. Especially in Dublin, the Festivities include parades, street theater, fireworks, and traditional ceili dance. The Irish hold tight to their traditions and manage to sweep tourists along in their exuberance.

Cities

Located in a pleasant bay surrounded by hillsides, Dublin is not known as one of the huge urban destinations in Europe, but it is ranked among the top 25 cities in the world. Dublin’s narrow streets, pubs, and the fashionable area around Temple Bar south of the River Liffey attract crowds. The river flows through the center of the city, the two halves connected with graceful bridges such as the Half-Penny Bridge.

Three signposted itineraries lead through the city—the Georgina Trail, Old City Trail, and the Cultural Trail—inviting tourists to explore the old quarters.

The capital has a famous university, Trinity College, and numerous museums, including the National Museum of Ireland with Irish archaeology exhibits and the Dublin City Gallery with works by Corot, Monet, Osborne, and Renoir. Between squares and gardens, comfy pubs entice visitors to a pint of Guinness. The Guinness Storehouse, a museum dedicated to the brew, is on the site of the brewery. There is also a museum to Jameson’s Whiskey in Smithfield Village.

The port city of Waterford, in the southeast, is known for its crystal, but the city’s glassmaking works closed in 2009. Kilkenny is a typical small Irish town with colorful facades and crowded pubs dedicated to Guinness. The university town and port city of Cork in the south, with its Victorian cityscape and many churches, was named European Capital of Culture in 2005.

Travel Advice

Very diverse activities. Tourists are received with legendary warmth and goodwill. Beautiful, unspoiled countryside.

The weather is rather changeable.

No particular problems, unless too much Guinness plays a role.

Lodging in Ireland covers a wide spectrum, includIng cottages, guest houses, manors, country houses, and farms.

Yellowstone National Park, designated as the world’s first national park by Ulysses S Grant in 1872, is also a biosphere reserve and World Heritage Site for its spectacular topography. Lying mostly in Wyoming, its 8,987 sq km (3,472 sq mi) extend into Montana and Idaho. Elevations range from a maximum height of 3,462 m (11,358 ft) at Eagle Peak to 1,610 m (5,282 ft) at Reese Creek. Most of the park is covered by forest interspersed with grassland and water.

Spectacular Travel To Yellowstone National Park In United States

The park is home to the planet’s most diverse collection of geysers, hot springs, mudpots and fumaroles. Two-thirds of the earth’s geysers – more than 300 – are here – and combined with over 10,000 other thermal features, you have a place like no other.

The Yellowstone National Park is also home to an active volcano, roughly 2,000 earthquakes a year, one of the world’s largest petrified forests, one of the world’s largest calderas – measuring 72 by 48 km (45 by 30 mi), and some 290 sizeable waterfalls, the highest of which are the 94-m (308-ft) Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River.

Beautiful Cerulean Geyser Surrounded By Colorful Layers Of Bacteria Against Cloudy Blue Sky In Wyoming USA

The Upper Geyser Basin is home to the largest numbers of geysers. Within 2.5 sq km (1 sq mi) there are at least 150, of which five can be accurately predicted – Castle, Grand, Daisy, Riverside and the most famous, Old Faithful. Driving down Firehole Lake Drive you will find the sixth predictable geyser – Great Fountain – whose twice-daily eruptions send water bursting 30-61 m (100-200 ft) into the air.

The Midway Geyser Basin, although smaller than its surrounding blow holes, offers the incredible gaping crater of the Excelsior Geyser, 61 x 91 m (200 x 300 ft) with a constant discharge of more than 4,000 gallons of water per minute into the Firehole River, which was named because early trappers thought it appeared to be smoke from wild fires. Also found here is Yellowstone’s largest hot spring, Grand Prismatic Spring, over 113 m (370 ft) in diameter and more than 37 m (121 ft) in depth.

The most popular attraction of Yellowstone National Park, located in the Upper Geyser Basin, is Old Faithful. Named for its punctuality, Old Faithful, although not the largest or most spectacular of the geysers, erupts more frequently than any of the others, on average every 80 minutes, spraying waters up to 57 m (184 ft) into the air.

Not only host to incredible natural features and awe-inspiring scenery, Yellowstone also hosts a number of large mammals including both black and grizzly bears, coyotes, grey wolves, red foxes, bobcats, mountain lions, lynx, otters, a number of deer species, bison, bighorn sheep and mountain goats among others.

What Is Yellowstone National Park

Nikko Japan – The Pilgrimage Town

In 1616 the powerful shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu, left a will requesting that a shrine be built here in his honour. The site in Nikko Japan already had religious significance – the Buddhist temple of Rinnoji had been standing there since the middle of the eighth century. Ieyasu’s shrine was completed within a year, but his grandson, Tokugawa Iemitsu, decided to erect a far more grandiose affair for him, the Toshogu Shrine. Iemitsu’s own mausoleum is only slightly less elaborate. Every year, in May, a grand festival is held here to re-create Ieyasu’s burial rites, featuring 1,000 or more costumed monks and warriors. The spectators are left in no doubt as to the absolute power wielded by this dynasty.

Rinnoji is a large red hall in Nikko Japan containing three huge golden statues. You walk under a huge stone gate towards the main entrance to Toshogu, passing a five-storey pagoda painted in green and red. Toshogu means ‘sunlight’, and the shrine and its surrounding sacred buildings are alive with riotous colour and fantastic carving and decoration. Steps lead up to the impressive Yomeimon gate, and 200 more lead uphill to Ieyasu’s tomb. The Hall of Worship, directly in front of the gate, is notable for the extraordinary original paintwork of its interior.

The first significant settlement in Canada, the French-inspired historic district of Quebec is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Slate-roofed granite houses surround the fabulous, romantic Chateau Frontenac, with sweeping views of the scenic St Lawrence River below.

Historic Quebec Canada - Vieux-Quebec

Historic Quebec Canada or Vieux-Quebec, the old walled city, comprises two areas, Basse-Ville and Haute-Ville. Both are almost entirely French-speaking, and very proud of their French culture. Basse-Ville, the original colony, located at the foot of Cap Diamant, is a burgeoning area of cafes and boutiques, once the home to merchants, traders and boatmen. Haute-Ville, fortified by walls and connected to Basse-Ville by funicular, is particularly European in architecture and style. Pavement cafes, horse-drawn carriages and cobbled streets prevail here.

Beautiful View Of Quebec City In Canada

As you wander through the gas-lit lanes of compact Haute-Ville, you may come across an ancient convent and museum in Historic Quebec Canada, and the nearly hidden, partially star-shaped Citadelle – the largest group of fortified buildings in North America, despite no shot having been fired here. Dufferin promenade at the height of the city affords majestic river and mountain views.

The basilique Notre-Dame is also worth a visit, its interior, rebuilt after a fire in 1922, is neo-Baroque in style and features paintings and treasures from the French regime, its original exterior, built in 1647, was largely reconstructed in 1771.

The majestic Chateau Frontenac, on Cap Diamant, is the city’s iconic landmark. A large-scale model of a Loire valley chateau, it can be seen from nearly every quarter of the city.

If you visit this beautiful city in summer, take advantage of the free concerts given at the stunning Parc des Champs-de-Bataille. This 108 ha (270 acre) park has more than 5,000 trees, grassy mounds, monuments and fountains, as well as the fantastic art museum, the Musee du Quebec. The park is also home to the Plains of Abraham, where in 1759, General Wolfe and the Marquis de Montcalm fought in the battle that ended French rule in North America.

A short walk down the Breakneck Stairs is Basse-Ville’s Rue Sous-le-Fort. From here you can head to the picturesque Place Royale, the heart of seventeenth-century industry and commerce. While you are here, a visit to the Musee de la Civilisation is a must.

What Is Historic Quebec Canada – Vieux-Quebec

Canada’s first settlement, it is a lively, scenic metropolis.

Hawaii, an archipelago of more than 19 volcanic islands near a geological ‘hot spot’ in the Pacific plate, is a tropical paradise and home to some of the most spectacular scenery.

Six of the eight big islands are open to tourism: Big Island (also called Hawaii), Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Kauai.

Formed over six million years ago, Kauai Hawaii, the oldest and most northerly of the main Hawaiian islands, is roughly 550 sq mi (1,430 sq km) in area.

Exotic Travel To Kauai Hawaii

Hanalei Bay is on the wet north shore, the wettest shore and is known for its spectacular, picture-postcard beauty. It is a long half-moon of sandy beach carved into the base of a sheer cliff on one side and a rocky point on the other. The westernmost curve of the bay is a calm shoreline. The quaint town has gourmet bistros, pretty boutiques and a yoga studio and is a have for the beachgoer seeking peace.

The Na Pali coast has spectacular scenery. Emerald valleys, jagged 1,219 m (4,000 ft) cliffs towering above the blue Pacific, caves, lava tubes and pristine beaches, make this one of the most stunning and unspoilt areas on the entire island. Helicopter above or hike or kayak along this beautiful coastline for guaranteed lasting memories.

West Kauai Hawaii is full of spectacular natural wonders and Hawaiian cultural landmarks. Awe-inspiring Waimea Canyon is the main draw. A vast 16 km (10 mi) long and 1,098 m (3,600 ft) deep, its scale and scope, and the rainbow colours streaking it are incredible. The view into Kalalau Valley is one of the most beautiful sights on the island: at sunset the walls reflect pink, orange, red and grey. From Kokee State Park, at the top of Waimea Canyon Road, drive to Kalalau Lookout for an amazing view of the canyon’s jagged cliffs and overgrown gorges dropping dramatically into the sea 1,219 m (4,000 ft) below.

South shore of Kauai Hawaii, on the sunny side of the island, is home to the National Tropical Botanical Garden, the only garden of its kind to be chartered by Congress, and to Spouting Horn, a series of natural lava tube formations, where water rushes in, creating a howling geyser effect. The beaches around Poipu, near the southern tip of the island are favourites for snorkelling and scuba diving.

Kauai Hawaii is best explored by 4×4 (fantastic scenery is round every turn), while exceptional views can also be seen from the air.

What Is To Do In Kauai Hawaii

Tour the Grand Canyon of the West, kayak along the beautiful Na Pali coast or just lounge on any of the pristine beaches.

Exotic Travel To Kauai Hawaii | Hollywood Connection

Large parts of Jurrassic Park, Fantasy Island, Raider’s of the Lost Ark, the original King Kong and 6 Days and 7 Nights were filmed here.

When To Traveling To Kauai Hawaii

Kauai is beautiful throughout the year. Poipu on the south-eastern side of the island is generally warm and sunny even when the tropical northern part of the island is overcast and rainy.

Exotic Travel To Kauai Hawaii | Worth A Splurge

Take a helicopter ride over the island; this is an incredible way to experience the amazing variety of vegetation and geology on this small island.

The Island of Samosir, in the middle of Lake Toba, the original home of the fierce Toba Bataks, has many stone tombs and traditional villages. Believed to be the largest and deepest caldera lake in the world, Lake Toba spans over 1,707 sq km (436 sq mi) and reaches a depth of 529 m (1,735 ft). Created by an enormous volcanic eruption more than 74,000 years ago, it is a giant caldera high in the treeless mountains of northern Sumatra.

Wonderful Travel To Lake Toba And Samosir Island In North Sumatra Indonesia

Samosir Island, the giant arid ‘Island of the Dead’ in the middle of Danau Toba, or Lake Toba, measures 45 x 20 km (28 x 12 mi). The eastern coast of the island rises steeply from a small bank towards a central plateau with an altitude of 780 m (2,559 ft), and the land gradually descends towards the southern and western coasts of the island, which is scattered with small villages.

The Samosir plateau consists mainly of rock, some scattered forests and swamps and a small lake. From Pangururan on the western side, a bridge connects the island with mainland Sumatra.

The island is best known for its Toba Batak sarcophagi, which were first discovered in the 1930s. These ‘adat houses’, or stone graves with coffins have been found in 26 villages.

In Tomok, under the sacred Hariara tree, lies the 200-year-old stone sarcophagus of King Sidabutar’s clan. Although they resemble coffins, the sarcophagi normally contain the collected skulls of an entire family or clan.

The island’s traditional wooden houses are interesting and may be decorated with clan symbols and beautiful examples of batak handicrafts and musical instruments are on sale in several villages. The museum in Simanindo has fine examples of these and of traditional puppets used in ceremonies and dances.

The ruins of Teotihuacan Mexico are among the most important in the world. The fate of its civilization remains unclear, but we do know that this was once the centre of an advanced society with a population of more than 200,000. Occupation began about.500 BC, but it was only after 100 BC that building of the Pyramid of the Sun began. Teotihuacan – also written Teotihuacán, with a Spanish orthographic accent on the last syllable – is an enormous archaeological site in the Basin of Mexico. The magnificent pyramids and palaces once covered 31 sq km (12 sq mi) but were abandoned in about 700 AD and little is known about the people.

Teotihuacan Mexico – The Place Where Gods Were Born

Archaeologists discovered that the Teotihuacan Mexico followed a cult of the planet Venus, determining wars and sacrifices based on rituals timed with its appearance as the morning or evening star. Numerous tombs with human remains, jewellery, pottery and items from daily life have been uncovered near the foundations of the buildings.

Today, Teotihuacan Mexico, the rough stone structures of three pyramids, sacrificial altars and some grand houses, all of which were once covered in stucco and painted with brilliant crimson frescoes, remain.

People On The Sun Piramid In Teothuacan Mexico

The front wall of the Pyramid of the Sun is exactly perpendicular to the point on the horizon where the sun sets at the equinoxes and the rest of the buildings were built at right angles to it. The main axis, Calzada de los Muertos (Avenue of the Dead) runs north-south with the Pyramid of the Moon to the north and the Ciudadela (Citadel) at the south. Only 1 km (0.6 mi) has been uncovered and restored.

Archaeologists tunnelling inside the Pyramid of Quetzalcoatl found evidence of ceremonial burials. Drawings of how the building once looked show that every level was covered with feathered serpents.

As you stroll north along the Avenue of the Dead to the Pyramid of the Moon, look on the right for a crumbling wall sheltered by a modern corrugated roof. The wall still bears a painting of a jaguar from which you may be able to imagine how amazing this site once was.

The Pyramid of the Sun, east of the Avenue of the Dead, is the third-largest pyramid in the world, an imposing 221 m (730 ft) per side at its base and 64 m (210 ft) high. Built on top of an already existing structure, it was completed around 300 AD, and the views from its apex are among the most extraordinary in Mexico.

The Pyramid of the Moon is surrounded by small temples and the Palace of Quetzalpapalotl, with its striking butterfly paintings, and its straight perspective down the Avenue of the Dead is breathtaking.

There will be a lot of walking, especially if you choose to climb the pyramids, at an alititude over 2,120 m (7,000 ft) so take it slowly, bring sunscreen and water.
